Glitter Grapes

Eating 12 grapes at midnight on New Year’s Eve is supposed to bring luck. Here green grapes are turned into a sweet and sour snack. For this you need the powdered jelly mix like you get in South Africa or the USA.

Prep time: 5 minutes/Cook time: 5 minutes/Serves: 10

Ingredients:
675g (1 1/2 lb) green grapes
1/2 lemon
90g (3 oz) cherry jelly (Jell-o)
90g (3 oz) orange jelly (Jell-o)
90g (3 oz) lemon jelly (Jell-o)
90g (3 oz) lime jelly (Jell-o) [greengage here in South Africa]

Method:
Empty each packet of jelly powder into its own 1l (4 cup) resealable plastic bag.

Remove the grapes from their stems and rinse in a colander. Shake to remove any excess water (you need the grapes to be damp but not dripping wet). Squeeze the lemon juice over the grapes and toss with your hands to coat all the fruit.

Divide the grapes evenly between the four plastic bags. Seal them then shake to coat each grape in the jelly powder. Tip the grapes out of the bag into a bowl and serve.
