The Edo State Taskforce against Human Trafficking has arrested a 28-year-old woman, Joy Umukoro and her 48-year-old boyfriend, Anthony Igbinogun, for reportedly selling their two-month-old son to an unidentified buyer in Rivers State.
After the arrest was made, Joy Umukoro, confessed that they were paid N700,000 for the baby. She went on to say that she took N500,000 and gave the agent who arranged for the baby to be sold a total of N170,000.
Joy Umukoro claimed that she and her boyfriend used the remaining N30,000 to buy hard drugs for their personal use. However, Joy Umukoro confessed and Anthony Igbinogun said that they sold the baby because they lacked the money to raise him with.
However, the Head of the Investigative Unit of the Edo State Taskforce against Human Trafficking, Abigail Ihonre, said that Joy Umukoro and Anthony Igbinogun sold the baby for N1.7 million and not N700,000 that they had claimed.
