A document sighted by worldafrica.net revealed that Mrs Kekere-Ekun, who was a former Chief Judge in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital was denied visa based on “sanctioned activities”.
Though no specific reason was given for the rejection, Mr. Donald Duke, a former governor of Cross River State said it is has to do with the role she played in the disputed Imo governorship election which was won by Mr. Emeka Ihedioha, candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In the judgment read by Mrs Kekere-Ekun, the apex court had nullified the governorship election of Mr. Ihedioha and declared Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the rightful winner of the exercise.
The court also ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Ihedioha and give a fresh one to Uzodimma who was then sworn in as the sixth governor of Imo State on January 15 2020
The rejected letter to Justice Kekere-Ekun was signed by Jay M. Sorensen, American Consular officer at Abuja.
