”Asthma Weed”

Asthma Weed

Euphorbia Hirta commonly known as Asthma weed in English, Dudhi in Hindi, Amman Paccharisi in Tamil is a commonly growing weed post monsoons. The erect plant often resembles an erect snake, hence it is sometimes referred to as Snakeweed.

The flowers of the plant are green or brownish in color and don’t adhere to the conventional definition of a flower. One of the ways to identify Asthma weed is by the milky substance that flows out when one breaks any part of the plant.

The first time I had heard about the uses of this plant was in a meeting with rural women where they were sharing how consumption of the leaves for a stipulated period supports in regulating excessive white discharge for women.

One can remove warts by applying the plant milk on it on a daily basis. The leaves can also be added to the lentils one cooks. How do you use Asthma weed in your region?? Please share 🙂
