The 20years old Akwa Ibom Biafran girl, Idara Godwin, popularly known as ‘Idara Gold’, who was abducted by the personels of Nigerian Department of State Service(DSS), has been released today, 5th May. Idara has been held by the DSS since a year and 6 months ago. She was taken forcefully by the DSS on the early hours of November 8, 2021 when they(DSS) invaded the home of a Biafran activist in Enugu, where Idara was at the moment.
The DSS first denied young Idara the access to her lawyers and family members while she was detained in the DSS headquarter in Abuja, then military detention facility in Wawa barrack at Kainji, Niger State.
Eventually, Idara was arraigned on 19th October 22 before the Justice Binta Nyako Federal High Court, Abuja, on the bases of three count charges, namely; Promoting the activities of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) on Facebook, Concealing informations that could assist in the apprehension of a fellow Biafran activist, and for being a member of the proscribed group.
Young Idara however pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charges, while Justice Binta Nyako, the trial judge ordered that she be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre, pending the commencement of trial slated for November 22, 2022.
Thereafter, the case was subsequently adjourned due to continuous frivolous excuses of the court.
Then, on 27th April 2023, the presiding Justice Nyako’s Court finally sat, and Idara was granted bail by the Abuja Federal High Court.
Subsequently, necessary actions were immediately put towards perfecting her bail conditions, and were completely perfected as required by the court.
So, by a reliable information available to Family Writers Press International, Idara Gold’s bail conditions were perfected and she has been allowed by her captures to walk home freely today, 5th May, 2023
